Corporate Web – How to place your first step right?

Corporate Web

I’m always surprised when the corporate world does stupid things, because they’re often not very stupid in hindsight.

– Penn Jillette

Hello All,

From past 4 months I have been experiencing severe corporate work pressure and expectations from my peers and family. With each passing day i realised  something new and went a step closer to understand how corporate world works. I kept on absorbing the environment around me and tried to learn the basic steps one must follow to create a strong entry point into this corporate web.

  1. First impression—> Make It Big!

Your entry must be known to everyone around you. Introduce yourself with confidence. Let people know which part of team you will be working with and what is your background.

2. Build Relationships

Now this is self explanatory but what is not seen directly is the impact of this step. You  might be very smart and self efficient but if you are reserved and keep yourself  isolated then all your smartness is a waste because in the corporate arena you are called smart only when people realize that you are smart and not when you think you are smart. To show people that you are smart, you will have to keep a healthy and interactive relationship with everyone around you. The way you present yourself in front of your peers will actually be the deciding factor of your smartness.

3. Never Show off and always help others

This is extremely crucial and critical in order to grow in a company. Always keep a down to earth attitude and never let others feel hesitated to come to you to ask for help. if you help others, they will help you in your time of need. Its the fundamental rule of success. You must be very polite and friendly in your replies and should always show interest if someone is talking to you. If you are busy for some reason then give them a proper time when they can come back and seek your help or delegate them to other person whom you think can help them. Again, this should be done in a very polite manner.

4.  Always keep yourself on time and be sincere towards your work.

You must not be late for office and put yourself in the situation where your manager demands an explanation for your mistake. It is the first sign of underachievement and lack of dedication to your work. Let others know that you are dedicated and hardworking.

5. Always seek advice and information from your peers.

This will keep you updated about what’s going on in and around your project and will place you a step ahead in your mind for decision making.

6. Never rely on others for something which you own the responsibility.

If some task is delegated to you then you and only you will be considered responsible for whatever happens with the task so better check yourself and confirm before coming to any conclusions suggested by others.

7. Working hard is good but working smart is what matters.

Always look for smart solutions to any problem you are facing. There would be 100s who could provide solution but only a few who can provide the least complex solution so try being one of those few.

8. Always keep a note of your achievements.

They come real handy at the time of promotions. Your manger at times might forget your contribution to the team. What if you also forget what you did? NO PROMOTION!

9. Work for team and then for you.

Consider this scenario.

You want to get promoted to the next level and you are the top performer in your team but overall your team has not done well hence the senior to which you were about to get replaced was not given promotion hence you are also stuck at the same level.

Although you were a star performer but you don’t get promotion because overall your team has performed below expectations.

10. Keep learning and never look back

This is final mantra for success. Always open your mind for new dimensions as the world keeps on changing and you surely wont like getting lost in the crowd.  If sometime you have a bad day at the office, just learn from it and forget that something like that ever happened.

Path to Success

Path To SuccessStep #1

Understand yourself completely

Don’t try to be in a world of fantasy. Be true to yourself. If you are a day dreamer then your dreams will remain just a dream. It will never take the shape of reality. I don’t say dreaming is bad. In fact it’s our dreams that give us the vision and the moral boost to do something but over dreaming and making the virtual world your reality is terribly bad.

Step #2

Know your potential

Everyone can’t run as fast as Bolt and everyone also can’t be Bill Gates but if you realize your potential you can attain similar height of success. For example you know you can’t handle pressure. Now this is something which you can’t change easily. There is nothing impossible to achieve but sometimes adjusting with what we have is far better option than to try making it perfect.  Simply realize all your weakness and strengths.

Step #3

Sense the feeling of satisfaction and determination

After analyzing yourself so deep, if you don’t get the feeling of satisfaction then probably you are not confident on what you have thought about. I advise you to take rest and make a fresh start again. Too much of thinking can really leave you in a confused state hence it’s good to re-evaluate your thoughts and conclusions rather than hurrying up.

Step #4

Make a concrete long term plan (Generalized)

Once you are done with finding your weaknesses and powers, now it’s time to make a long term plan. This involves real thinking and its here where your potential is tested, so it’s really important to make wise and planned decisions. Involve every weakness and strength in it and make a plan which you believe would be most sound and solid. Never forget to draw alternatives. Life is unpredictable! Define a starting point and the end point of the plan within a calculated period of time.

Step #5

Make a concrete long term plan (Detailed)

Now when you are aware of the overall structure of your plan, it’s time to point out minute details and establish milestones to achieve the end point step by step. This will help you always remain focused on some specific part of your plan. For example if your end point is to be an international singer then one of the milestone could be winning some reputed national contest. So at that time your concentration will be entirely on that national contest which off course is a sub part of your ultimate goal. This approach provides a much easier and much controlled way to reach the goal.

Step #6

Keep the level of determination and confidence in you

This is the final and the most important step. Once you are set with your goal plan you have to be through with it. There will be ups and downs.  You cannot avoid them but what matters is that you never back down and keep moving towards achieving your goal. If you maintain the level of tolerance, patience and determination you will soon taste the success.

Yes, You Can

Experience is the child of thought, and thought is the child of action.

-Benjamin Disraeli

Hello, Namaskar, Assllamwalekum,

It’s been quite a few days I didn’t post anything due to my exams but now I am back with my pen to grab your attention. I hope all of you are in great health and god showers upon you with everything you need. Recently the Indian subcontinent witnessed two major events. One being the execution of lashkar-e-tauba terrorist Ajmal Kasab (he needs no introduction) and the other big news which made headlines was the arresting of a girl in Mumbai on making ill comments against Shiva Sena founder Mr.Bal Thackeray. We all know what happened with the girl was a tight slap against the freedom of speech but still none of us raised our voice against this awful act. I believe what we lack is confidence and an inspiration to raise our voice, to succeed in life. Today I want to inspire each one of you so that you are always the first one to raise your voice against the bad and you always stand ahead of the others wherever you go.

The world has given birth to some of the exceptional leaders like Mahatma Gandhi who with his epic “SatyaGraha  Andolan” swiped away entire British army from India. Another person being Sir Albert Einstein who entirely changed the way we look into the world. One more name that comes into my mind is my favorite Roger Federer, the tennis superstar. All of them have contributed in different ways but they all have one thing in common, the zeal to prove the world. They have made history not because they were special but because they used their potential in the right way. It would be too lengthy to mention their contributions to the society (and moreover that’s not my objective) as they are endless but what matters here is that they were no more different than us. They sat on the same school bench, ate the same kind of food and lived the same way we r living. What separates them from the rest is their continuous dedication towards their goal and their “never back down” attitude. Gandhi ji was thrown out of the train as he was a black while his visit to South Arica. That’s when the fire was ignited inside him to free people from slavery. Albert Einstein used to demand explanation for everything around him. His father once showed him a pocket compass; Einstein realized that there must be something causing the needle to move, despite the apparent “empty space” and that’s where he went into proving the deepest secrets of the universe. After years of success and top ranking, there came a time when people started speculating that now it’s time for Roger Federer to retire. He worked hard constantly for 2 years to regain his most favorite title of Wimbledon this year and came back to no.1 in the rankings. They all are ordinary people but still they are special because of their courageous attitude.

All of them were initially mocked by people around them but they never cared because they knew they were right. God has blessed every one of us with some special quality. It’s only up to us to find our inner strength. This is the time where we give more attention to what others are saying about us rather than listening to our own heart. Remember one thing; people criticize about you only when they feel that you are doing something which is either absolutely wrong or perfectly correct. Dare to take a step ahead. Only then you will know the outcome of it. Don’t simply sit and predict the outcome and declare yourself a loser before even competing. If Albert Einstein had not searched for the answers to his questions we might have still been in 17th century. If Gandhi ji had not dared to fight back for his dignity and for his fellow countrymen India would still be under British rule. (Though learning about the recent scams I feel, even Gandhi ji would have preferred to be a slave of the British J ). The leader is inside us. All we need to do is to carve it out within ourselves.

Sit back and relax yourself. Close your eyes and try to analyze where your true potential lies. Make that as the goal of your life and start working on it till you don’t achieve it. Serve your society and always stay healthy. I hope you get inspired by my effort and you all become successful leader in own fields.

Your comments are valuable.

God bless
